2016-17 Alumna Of The Year - Dr. Pamela Anderson

A Pewaukee School District committee has chosen a Pewaukee High School Alumni Person of the Year for the 2016-2017 school year. The committee of nine individuals from the District, PHS, and the community reviewed three excellent candidates before finalizing their decision.  Dr. Pamela Anderson, class of 1973, was chosen for her accomplishments in eradicating world hunger. Prior to retiring in 2016, she most recently served as the Director for Agricultural Development for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

President Obama appointed Anderson to a seven person advisory board for USAID where she currently serves as a board member to advise on issues related to food security in the United States. Having worked most of her life on hunger issues internationally, Anderson says she is now focusing her work on hunger in the United States, citing a statistic that one out of five children in the US are malnourished. Her future plans involve working toward alleviating this national crisis.

Anderson has many fond memories of Pewaukee High School including encouragement she received as a junior from the recently retired Board of Education president, Jim Huismann. Her teachers were also very influential to her over the years and the lessons she learned in public speaking are unforgettable. Anderson shares that she speaks all over the world and the words of her former English teacher, Sandi Hrovatin, still influence her when she prepares a speech.

Pewaukee High School Honors First Alumni Person of the Year!

Pewaukee High School Alumnus of the Year Col. William Swan ('87) was officially honored during the Pewaukee High School varsity basketball game at halftime. Colonel Swan says he never believed, when he was a student at Pewaukee High School in the 80s, that he would be sitting in the seat he is today.  In July 2015, he assumed Command of Marine Aircraft Group - Eleven (MAG-11).  MAG-11 is one of only three active duty Marine Aircraft Groups worldwide, which contains approximately 3,500 Marines and Sailors in eight separate squadrons.

Col. Swan was chosen for the honor by a committee of eight Pewaukee High School & District current and retired staff in addition to the Pewaukee High School alumnus, Carl Spencer.
